IDA HEALTH EQUITY PROGRAM: The complexity of society and health care economics has made it a practical challenge to many Houstonians to be able to afford health care without financial strain. Being frontline workers in health care delivery, the members of the Indian Doctors Association recognize the need for us to invest in this prevailing inequity. With a motto of Health, Equity, Access and Leadership (HEAL) we are designing various activities that aim to address issues at stake and also create leadership in the current and future generations of the medical work force to embrace the social responsibility as a mission of the medical field. Apart from various member volunteers providing their expertise and time, we have successfully engaged with the future generations by partnering with various medical student organizations in the greater Houston area. The current initiatives are listed below: Community clinics: By identifying specific clinics across the greater Houston area to support, we are forming a network of clinics that can be accessed by patients in need that our members encounter in their professional lives. We aspire with our engaged membership to support the activities of these clinics to the fullest capacity. We are proud to feature the below clinics at this stage and encourage all to visit us regularly for a growing list. 1. Denver Harbor Family health center: This health center is a part of the Vecino Health Centers Network located in the Denver Harbor community in Houston located at 424, Halo Street. The clinic provides medical, dental, and behavioral health services in the neighborhood. Please find further details about the clinic here at: https://www.denverharborhealthcenter.org/aboutus/ 2. Indian Doctors Charity Clinic (IDCC): This health center has been an integral part of the history of our organization located at 9550 W. Belfort Street in Houston serving the needs of the community. Our members volunteer in these health outreach clinics once a month on Saturdays and provide basic health screenings and health education for residents in collaboration with SEWA Houston volunteers. Community Health Awareness Program: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and awareness is the beginning of creating an empowered community that can take control of their health. In efforts to provide education and awareness we at IDA have created various health screening activities and an educational talk series for Houstonians to benefit. In August, 2025, IDA in collaboration with Open Forum launched their monthly radio segment The Healing Point .This program is presented by IDA’s Speakers’ Bureau, a part of our Health Equity Program, dedicated to promoting health education, raising awareness about preventive care, and giving community members the tools to navigate the healthcare system with confidence. |
